Fan motor became noisy and had trouble operating at a constant speed. To your point some weeks ago either the brushes or motor magnets probably failed.

Glad everything worked out. And (sometimes) we need to be able to see it to know for sure. Mistery solved...

By the way did you see the new unit's motor "break in period" in your charts?

Kinda cool huh...

Good to know these things...

Yepper it's got to be the sun. Even with a fresh filter you are still spiking.

It's hard if you can't be there to see it...

Check it on your next day off and I'll bet it's in the sun at those times of the day.

The change of sunlight angle over different times of the year is to blame for several spiking stations right now...

Good luck.

Hello neighbor,

We are over an hours drive away from each other but your the closest outside NETC private radiation station located to me than any other, so I'll call you my neighbor.

:!: I'm writing this open letter because I'm concerned with your seriously high readings since March 11, 2016. I suspect equipment failure of some type might be the possible cause. I know your downwind of the Byron Nuclear Plant, which due to wind patterns I am not, but one of your readings was 4000+ CPM. Having the same equipment as you, a reading that high seems very unlikely without a core meltdown type incident.

I have seen previous users who have had equipment failure of some type which has caused false readings similar to yours. If possible, could you please try to confirm your next high reading to verify your equipment is functioning properly? Feel free to drop me a private message if your wish. Thanks in advance.

I agree something seems very odd at St. Charles; the 4 spikes over the past 5 days all start around 9:00 am and peak at exactly 11:00 am.

The device has obviously gone whacko. I have two of them, so I was able to compare the results. It is definitely overly sunlight sensitive although its does NOT sit directly in the sunlight's path. I swapped out the GQ tube and replaced the battery and it appears to be behaving normally, but then shortly thereafter it ran wild yet again. I will need to send the devices in for evaluation/repair. It is not even recharging the battery properly either on one of the units it remains at 33% charge, even though a new battery. I had a similar problem to what I am experiencing a couple of years ago, but these behaviors are quite exaggerated even more so than previously. This issue is beyond a suspect GQ tube in my opinion, but will leave that assessment to the experts at GQ electronics. As a result, I am going to be offline for extended period of time until both units are evaluated and repaired as necessary.

Sorry to hear about your equipment problems. I'm still using the same GMC-200 outside for the past 2+ years running 24/7 flawlessly. Being your nearest NETC private station neighbor, your data has been very valuable to be. Please check your private messages.

my GMC was finally repaired and returned to me earlier today. Just plugged it back in, I suspect it will be back on line later today. hopefully problems resolved, GQ tubes both went bad ( I had two GMC units, a 300E plus and a 300E, both failed), they re-calibrated, tested and should be good to go now.

best,

paul
