nornally i do not get in the middle of different points of views, but here is what I, NETC, units are doing.

1. I have 2 units in both of the cars, works great, turns on when engine starts and passes the data via Ham Radio APRS packets.
2. I have a unit on my back porch with air filter, works great for nearly two years, and still working
3. I have two units working in 4" plastic tubes with fans, still working. Sometimes I have to reset the power when I loose the internet.
4. I oldest unit is in the birdhouse and is still running. I spray for ants around this unit.

So the GC-3xx are working fine after two years. I had two bad units that I replaced.

The data is worth the effort of maintaining the units outside.

We thank you for everything you do without doubt!!!!

We should ALL support Harlan for his efforts and this endeavor is the greatest in history!

Sorry to cause any confusion, I'm just trying to keep it real ya know?

Too many false reads makes for a nasty ride!!!

Simply trying to get to the truth (the REAL truth, just like you) ya know?

Thanks...

I agree the accuracy of the private units is not enough to overrule the EPA's or to individually result in credible data, but if changes they show correlate with other units, they become proven to some degree. I think Harlan has the best setup, with more than one sensor and also some variation. If several of the sensors show a spike, there is high confidence in a real isotope effect. Those of us with only one sensor have to rely on nearby members for this correlation and confidence.

The variables affecting trusted reads are I think quite small, among them sunlight exposure (heat gain), and position-related (indoor vs. outdoor, high vs. low). Once in a fixed shaded location, unusual variations that are correlated have to be environmental. Many of the variables mentioned don't affect the radiation reading, such as those related to the filter. The filter only serves as a "sample and hold" for airborne particles. A spike on an an unfiltered unit due to a plume of some sort would show as an extended higher reading in a filtered unit. Such correlated readings ought to result in more people investigating, including the EPA.

The recent beta increases on filtered units in Eastern USA should have been analyzed by EPA by now (I can imagine their sites variously went offline in early July to have filters changed and analyzed?). I hope someone from the EPA is able to provide some info.

Too be clear I'm not saying that these units are bad or anything of the sort.

There are some potential probs with these rigs (and I'm not saying rigs in a bad way either).

Be careful changing filters as these things pick up VERY small pollutants of all kinds when placed indoors or out!!!!

Electric shock is always a consideration outdoors as well as these units are not grounded. May even attract lightning (not that this has happened so far, as far as we know).

and

Please don't think I'm putting them down or anything, just concerned about false reads and (other) possible hazards.

We gotta work together!!!! We are all (the ones that are) taking the time to learn daily about the severity of pollution and it's effects! Most are (seem to be) unaware of these things.

Let's all pull together. If we can't, who can...

Healthy debate is the cure for these dastardly, child (and adult) killing pollution problems!

When we stand together nothing can stand in the way of the truth no matter what is turns out to be!!!

Radiation data is very important, and data over a long period will compensate for most of the small variables of the Geiger Counter. So Netc need all the radiation data possible on a consent data rate.

Thank you to everyone that helps Netc
