WHY SHOULD A CHILD OF GOD STUDY THE WORD OF GOD?

It seems it should be unnecessary to discuss this but the truth is,
most Christians know very little about the Word of God.

1. Because of its author.
Often God is thought of as a Creator, a Redeemer, a Shepherd.
a Judge, etc. This is correct thinking, of course, for He does
indeed function in all these roles. But there is one great accomplish-
ment that is almost always left out, God is an Author. God has written
a book and that book is the Bible. As testified by any human author,
the nicest thing one can say to an author is, "Yes, I have read your
book."

2. Because of the often repeated command to read it.
Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of
thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that
thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written
therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then
thou shalt have good success.
II Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God,
a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the
word of truth.
Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man
shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth
out of the mouth of God.

3. Because the Bible is God's chosen way to accomplish His divine will.
	A. Sinners are saved through the message in this book.
Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name
of the Lord shall be saved. 10:14 How then shall they call on him in
whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of
whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
10:15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is
written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel
of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
I Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, ]
but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for
ever.
	B. Saints are sanctified through the message.
Psalms 119:11 119:009 Wherewithal shall a young man
cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. 119:10
With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from
thy commandments. 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might
not sin against thee.

4. Because our enemy the devil has read it.
During the account in Matthew 4, Christ is tempted three
times by the devil. On each occasion the Savior answered Satan
with a phrase , "It is written," and then proceeded to quote
from the Word of God. But what is almost overlooked is the fact
that the phrase "It is written" is repeated four times in Matthew
four, and the fourth time it is the Devil using it to quote scripture
to Christ! We need read God's Word lest the devil get the
advantage on us.

5. Because the Bible alone answers man's three most pondered questions.
	A. Where did I come from.
Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image,
after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea,
and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth,
and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 1:27 So
God created man in his own image, in the image  of God created he him;
male and female created he them.
Psalms 100:3 Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he
that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the
sheep of his pasture.

	2. Why am I here?
Ecclesiastes 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the
whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the
whole duty of man.
Revelation 4:11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory
and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy
pleasure they are and were created.

	3. Where am I going?
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave
his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not
perish, but have everlasting life.
Revelation 20:15 And whosoever was not found written
in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
