FYI - Electrical disruption of station equipment - air purifier ONLY

While out of town, the period of peak radiation detection on February 19th 2017 and February 21st 2017 are not accurately displayed due to our son accidentally disrupting the power to the air purifier unit. Thankfully I (long ago) decided (for this reason) to make sure the geiger counter and computer are on different electrical circuits. You can safely assume that any slightly elevated level you see on my graph between February 19 - 21 of 2017 would be much higher than displayed currently.

 I'm running a little behind, but I replaced my outside filter at 10:33 CST today, March 20th 2017.

I change these filters monthly and recently I found them for the lowest price so far and not only will my local WalMart store price match their current online sale price, Amazon has it marked down too. Looking at the site camelcamelcamel, I see that this is near the lowest price ever for that filter. I use a knife and cut the center plastic logo out of it so my geiger counter can go there.

Today June 8, 2017 between 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. I replaced my outside filter.

I know, I'm past the 30 days of operation again. I just bought 12 new filters so hopefully by having them on hand, I might get them replaced on time.

Today at 1:50 CST (July 8, 2017) I replaced my outside radiation monitoring filter with a new Holmes HEPA Aer1 (TYPE A) brand filter. As a result, my next 24 hour readings will likely be elevated just slightly as the airflow is increased and therefore the radioactive particles being trapped increases slightly too.

Today I woke up to find my station in alarm status. While it is common to have a slightly elevated reading overnight after replacing the HEPA filter, this is elevated higher than normal. The good news is that as it gets later in the day, the radiation readings are going down as the radioactive particles trapped in the HEPA filter overnight decay away. The highest radiation readings are normally overnight and in the early a.m. hours when the upper atmosphere comes down to the ground bringing with it radiation particles available in the area at that time. In searching for possible causes I checked the governments AirNow site and the NRC Reactor Status page. Possible causes could include the shutdown of 3 reactors recently ( Saint Lucie 1, Turkey Point 3 & Turkey Point 4) or even radiation from Fukushima in the jet stream coming with the wildfire smoke from the West.

I just replaced my outside filter, 2:30 p.m. CST October 12, 2017.

I have had some elevated reading already this week prior to replacing the filter so I expect some early reading elevated as much or higher than pictured here.
