I've had some higher readings the last 20 hours or so with a high of 72 cpm last night. My normal background has been about 19 with the GMC-300. Noticing this higher trend I had my other GMC turned on today, a 320, and had some readings up into the 30's with it during the afternoon. It wasn't until this evening that I had time to compare the 2 side by side. The cpm's stayed pretty close with me watching for about 5 minutes but there were a few spikes of around 30+ with the network connect 300 whereas the 320 never did spike that high but got close one time of 27. Any way I shut the 300 and PI raspberry down and powered it back up again just for the heck of it and will keep an eye on the 300. I may want to switch it out if it seems too wonky compared to the 320.

Can I switch plugging the 320 into the PI for the 300 without any problems?

Your custom Raspberry Pi software works with both units you mentioned. I would power down the Pi when making the change.

Thanks King Cobra. Last evening the 300 was definitely misbehaving so sending it back in for repair. I'll see if I can get the 320 going in it's place.

I own a GMC-300 myself. I am not yet convinced that your GMC-300 is defective. With that said, I am not saying your high reading were correct or false. I understand that with your current Raspberry Pi software, you can hook up both of your geiger counters at the same time using the two USB inputs on the Pi and compare their averages. It is also important during high readings to verify on the display screen of the geiger counter. This will confirm that there is not a software bug causing the higher readings.

Well last evening I'd unplugged the 300 from the network so I could watch it next to the 320 side by side for a good half hour. The 300 was reading in the 60's most of the time with the 320 around 20 cpm. If one is messed up I sure hope it is the 300. Away it will be nice to rule out geiger tube problem one way or another with the 300.

Well I tried powering off the PI then plugging in the 320 and turning them on a couple 3 times but the 320 is not being pickup at this point.

Today is your 300 still reading 60 CPM as the normal background?

The 300 was still high this morning going from 40 to 65 while the 320 was showing from 15 to 24. I turned it back on for a little bit before I packed it up to send off this afternoon for about 5 minutes and it was more in the normal range of 25 cpm...go figure.

I have noticed with the 320 plugged in to the PI this afternoon that when I look at its IP address using my web browser, it does show a flat blue line on the graph and when I mouse over than it shows the time and a cpm of 0. When the unit is unplugged the blue flat line disappears so I guess it sees that it is there but just not registering the cpm.
