The most recent EPA gamma stations show a rise to the East and the MI outside NETC station shows a small rise. Since you do confirm that your geiger counter matched what NETC receorded on your chart, if the reading was false it would be the geiger tube but because of how it looks with the rise and fall... I believe it was likely real.
How close did you manage to get your second geiger counter to the first unit to compare?
Did you put the bottom of your 2nd geiger counter right next to the bottom of the 1st geiger counter?
I ask this because in the GMC-3xx model I know the geiger tube is located at the bottom of the geiger counter and you want to get that as close to the other to compare.
