For the record, the motor assembly did indeed fail. The motor speed did not operate at a constant rpm, it was varying and at times noisy with a ticking sound. I suspect a bearing or bushing failed causing the motor fan to be partially binding against something causing speed variations.

Hello Paul,
So, by chance do you still have the unit or did you throw it away? I'd be interested to see if any additional radiation could be detected around or inside of it. This topic has been quite dicey over the last few weeks. And it would be nice to finally put all the speculation to bed.

Unfortunately no it was disposed of some time ago.

Oh well, this is exactly what I'm talking about...

...We save our tax return and other information and this stuff sits around taking up space sometimes for years. But, after something as important as this (and possibly a threat to life and liberty) we throw the only way to know for sure in the landfill...

Now I'm not in any way coming down on this operator, I think anyone that spends their time and money to monitor these things is a blessing and ALL their efforts to do so should be appreciated. And I do VERY MUCH appreciate all of you.

However...

...these are the most important problems we have in the modern world and could at any time cause a ELE. We all know this...

That being said...

...if you experience a high reading and you throw the filter and/or unit away you also throw out any chance to correct the situation or alert anyone.

If a high reading (like this one in particular) is accurate messing around with any of the components IS DANGEROUS.

If you're using a air filter outdoors it's not going to clean anything up for anyone unless you (or someone else) properly tests it and publishes the results of these tests for the public to know and respond to.

These results no matter how basic can be used to alert the proper people to do official tests.

These are the real things we need to be looking at, it is a no brainier for me (to know how badly we need isotope tests) and should be for all of you too.

Let's get together on this one!!! All of the operators out there should be willing to provide proper materials and information for testing and store the components if necessary until someone can be located to properly test. NEVER throw out any filter or unit that can prove or disprove high read information.

If you are willing to test filters and components I've started a thread to list contact information in "Only NETC Private Radiation Monitoring Stations" so any operator can request information as to how to proceed after a high read and to get real testing done to find the truth, whatever that truth may be...

https://www.netc.com/bb/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=1154

Please sign up if you have the gear to test for isotopes!!! Place as little or as much contact information as you wish by replying the message above and let's get this very serious hole in our data fixed!

Thanks for everyone's replies to this subject. Sometimes you have to "stir the pot" to bring attention to something this important.

If it makes me unpopular, so be it...

....just know my intentions are good.

PS: Looking forward to any other information to prove or disprove this incident.

Sorry had a prob with a 1000 char. limit... I Sent a e-mail to the staff to see what the problem is.

I have a life outside of netc.com and did not join the network to monitor and diagnose failed equipment. I joined to be a part of an early detection network consisting of unpaid volunteers. That is about all i can and desire to contribute at this stage in the process. You have your priorities, I have mine. We will agree to disagree here. Lets move along now.

Sorry I didn't mean to upset you, it's sometimes hard to make a point when typing without it sounding angry or condescending.

This was absolutely not my intent. Just wanted to stress the point that when something like this happens we need to follow some basic actions to get to the truth.

I really wish you still had that unit and the filter so we could test it and know the truth about what actually happened.

Again I apologize if I came off wrong...

I am no expert but the research I have done has been done using information from experts. The "experts" can not agree on safe levels of radiation and many other things related to radiation. I know someone who uses scintillation counters and has found & pointed out errors in a popular YouTube radiation chaser. After seeing repeated math & procedure errors that always seem to make the test samples test low, I am not very trusting of independent test by people I do not know.
