I am 9 miles from the Vallecitos complex, the very first privately owned and operated boiling water reactor that started service in 1957 and was a pilot for the Dresden plant in Illinois. The Dresden plant is still in service?! Holy shit. The last news I could find about it was that it was due to be completely cleaned up in 1997, but GE is still there 'fabricating' source materials used in medicine and industry. Google maps come to the rescue.

I almost want to sneak in at night with my Geiger counter at night and check it out, but far too often that sort of activity turns out to be far deadlier than one might anticipate. It looks like this place is between owners and has taken 770 pounds of nuclear waste in, as of April 2011. (http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/B ... 377268.php)

Looking a little further.. What is that?!

Welcome to NETC and thanks for the links!

Specially the one about the research reactors. I live about an hour north of the Fermi II reactor in Munroe MI and I remember reading somewhere that Fermi I was a research reactor and is still intact sitting within the restricted area of the Fermi II reactor...

This and the upcoming waves of Fuk Nuke is why I now own 4 Geiger counters, one a nearly useless Russian dRSB-88, and 1 connected to NETC, plus a GMC 300 and a very nice pancake based custom unit from Atomic Dave (which I highly recommend BTW, very nice unit for hte price)

I am very happy to see Hey and his very small team (if he even has a team) has taken the time to build this site. I will be a supporter of this site going forward. In these trying times we need a site like this to keep tabs on what is out there, cant trust the EPA sites to do that since they seem to always go off line at the most inopportune times for some strange (cough cough) reason.

Ok, small team, but with all of the radiation monitoring stations, big hearts in providing their data, I believe we are as big as the world. Remember, smile awhile and give your face a rest, it takes less muscles to smile.

No disrespect intended Hey, I couldn't agree with you more!

I just wanted to let people know that you don't have massive resources available for this site but I think it is great what you have done here.

I encourage everyone to support this site and become at least a RAM member if not a full fledged Chart member. It is well worth it.

I can wait till i can get down to building my outdoor solar powered monitoring station.
