Are there any solutions for this other than the $99 software/cable they offer? The licensing on it looks terrible (locked to one machine, pay $90 every time your rig dies), and all it's doing is monitoring the 5V pulses from a 3.5mm audio cable.

I'm almost tempted to sell this thing and get a V2.

I have a inspector EXP without the usb interface. The output pin toggles 0v to 5v, it's the tip of the audio jack. Although I haven't tried this but if the free NETC software supports usb then you just have to connect the inspector to pins 2 & 3 of the usb (two center pins) pins 1 and 4 are usb device power.

I own an InspectorEXP and a Mazur 9000, both of which I took offline after buying a GMC-200 and GMC-300. They both come with the needed data cables. Save your pancake geiger counters for field testing.

Correct, I didn't think my reply through. I do plug my EXP directly into a counter but USB connection needs isolation.

I also labeled the output port "audio", duh.

I agree with cobra keep the inspector for field stuff.
