Seattle was at radcon 4 yesterday, our local news said nothing. no channel, no coverage. you almost have to go to news organizations outside the US to even find out what is going on here

Question... I could have sworn that there were more units from the middle, to western side of the country before. Did I imagine that, or are there many units not on line right now? I was showing someone the map yesterday, and it dawned on me, that it looked like a lot of missing units.

Nice Youtube video shows how to use NETC to confirm rising radiation levels aren't just restricted to west coast beach(es)...and how to keep an eye on it:

Chart members can select to view active or inactive stations from the chart members map.

Did you look there, every station should be seen there.

She did a nice job spreading the word. As for NETC, it looks like she isn't a chart member. Even not being a chart member, she still has access from the free public page to show each stations high and low readings. We need to look at those, you can't only look at the RADCON levels.

Agreed! Viewing the charts is way more useful in spotting trends over time.

She did not even cover the free pop up station data.

I noticed this too over the last month, and then last week. I've kept a vague eye on the absolute numbers of radiation monitors, and a week ago they looked something close to this:
Last Week of Dec: EPA Gamma, 99. 3 days ago, 94., Today 92

Last Week Dec: total Japan sites active 2656, 3daysago, 2652, today 2643. My impression is that they are going out around Iwake, very volatile numbers Iwake this week. - 21,000?

Now, the numbers of private stations appear to have gone from about 44 to 52 in the same time period.

Total number of stations active seems to remain real close to 227-8. So it looks like the EPA sites are going off-line in a one-to-one ratio for private ones going on.

Over 100 new members in the last week, (which is when I joined). Last Fri/Sat, 588. Today, 695. A jump of about 15% in one week.

Thank you for bringing attention to this. As more people learn about Fukushima and continue to contact our government officials to question the EPA sites high readings, I expect more to disappear.

We need more private monitoring stations!
