They are OK for what they are. Light units to reduce cost. The 1703 alarms fast and is sensitive it will alarm on the urinal and on a section of black top I drive on.
The 1406 has so far, only alarmed on some sushi for K-40.
I test seafood cat food regularly, I think the bio-accumulation will show there first and I have cats.
The 1406 has baselines for my safe and fridge. It is where I use it, I leave some flex for the fridge baseline.
Always calibrate these units for temperature before analyzing a sample.
I use GQ-320s for generally but have an inspector EXP (non-usb) for search.
For those that do not know already, alpha radiation is a strong type but will not be detected through a fish body. My Polimaster does not detect alpha radiation and therefore can not tell me if food is safe to eat, even if the sample was dried to remove the water that sheilds radiation detection. I stopped eating from the ocean sometime ago.
