Use a low cost geiger counter (in case I the weather kills it) that functions well $85 GMC-200 3. Put it as close to the house as I can. (North - intake filter facing West) 4. Put the geiger counter in a thin ziplock sandwich bag 5. Use plastic wrap and duct tape to cover air purifier controls

Station update - Recently there have been some NETC changes to my station:
1. My station was previously listed as being in Beloit WI, as seen above in the several screen shots that I have posted in this thread. While that was close to my real city, South Beloit Illinois is my real city and the current charts show that.
2. Some problems were encountered that caused false readings to show up on my graph and rather than allow those errors to remain and confuse others, I deleted all my (April of 2013) previous database data. The false data was obvious to me and is not shown in any of my previous screen shots.
Please use all the previous station screen shots that I have posted in this thread to compare my current vs. past readings. If your a station operator yourself, I suggest you take regular screen shots of your data too should something happen to yours too.

Well my GMC-200 is still working fine through this super cold weather! Here is a recent NETC screen shot I took. With the recent news of the class X flare on it's way to earth, we should also keep a watch out for EQ's. I understand they go hand & hand along with large amounts of radon gas released from the ground prior to EQ's in that area. With that said, check out this screen shot: IMPORTANT TIP: If you put your geiger counter outside on an air purifier like me, you might want to put it in a ziplock sandwich bag like I have done. My GMC-200 has been outside and in that bag since April of 2013 with no problems. If you do not use a sandwich bag, you might be seriously risking damage to your equipment. The choice is all yours, I can only tell you what has successfully worked for me so far.

For the record, in the a.m. today my GMC-300 alerted for a short time while in my car as I drive back home from the Belvidere Illinois station area. I have my GMC-300 set to alarm at 30 CPM because that level is not often reached and if reached it is very rare to happen unless there is rain/fog/snow. Today they was none of those, yet it did alarm. I did not have the in cabin recirculate air filter on so I was getting outside air. At the same time I smelled an odd smell, almost like my car was burning up. My engine light was already previously on and AutoZone says it is only because of a fuel level sensor and I continued to drive another 15 minutes until I got home with no sign of car problems. After I got out of my car, the small was stronger and it was not just by my car... I smelled it all the way to my front door. Then I came inside & remembered this post: https://www.netc.com/bb/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=615...which then caused me to look at my outside GC readings.

Today 1/20/2014 3:40 CST I replaced my outside filter because it has been sometime since I replaced it last and I am currently at a stations normal range of 20 CPM average so this is the best time to replace the filter.

Filter changed 3/11/2014 at 6 pm CST. Frequent filter changes are best, but I fail to do them on a regular schedule. Yes, this filter that I just replaced is a brand new HEPA filter seen here: http://www.airfilters.com/holmes-hapf30 ... OgodbxIAgw

Question... IF you read from a filter, does it accumulate particles, and the reading continue to go up and up? Tnx rc
