Yesterday my wife and I decided to attend this open house at the Byron Nuclear Plant. This was her first visit and my second. As a child, my parents took me through it many years ago. Back then we were inside the reactor building. Of course yesterday we were shown many things, but inside the reactor building was not one of them. You can see in my picture that it was a rainy day and yes both reactor 1 & 2 were running. We were told pictures and video were allowed as long as we avoided capturing any of their security setup. An example of this world be the locations of security cameras and some of the other measures of security I seen which I will not even mention.

While we enjoyed our time there, we still want them all shutdown. They are too dangerous and the waste lasts millions of years! The most unsustainable thing today is nuclear power.

I will add more information about our visit in future posts.

I had my InspectorEXP in my car but obviously I couldn't take that inside. Being such a rainy day, background readings were already elevated some but nothing I can honestly say I believe was due to the plants emissions. While I can not say that it was from the emissions, I can not honestly say it wasn't either. It did fall within the range I have previously seen during rain storms around my house.
