The ice wall around Fukushima has been turned on but I can find no information regarding its effectiveness yet. Does anybody know more?

I didn't know it was turned on. Thanks for the update.

It appears that they made a small section of ice wall in March 2014 to block water flowing into a trench, and despite initial success, in August of that year reported a failure ( http://cleantechnica.com/2014/08/20/tepco-concedes-failure-fukushima-ice-wall/). Maybe they realized a design problem, as TEPCO proceeded to build a full surrounding wall that is now complete and is being turned on in stages. Assuming the simulations are correct, it should work. The pipes are supposed to reach the bedrock to freeze the soil in a wall around the site, preventing ground water from flowing below it and carrying radioactive material to the ocean. I sincerely hope that the bedrock some 100 feet down is nice and flat on the ocean side so the ice wall makes a good seal. They talk about the water in the reactor basements being the main problem, but I believe at least one core melted through the floor and has been washed by ground water flowing into the ocean all along.

I hope it works too, but I do not have much faith in this so called ICE WALL. If saying it's a success buys TEPCO and Japan more time, they will do it. Later down the road we will likely hear them say, "Sorry, we were wrong and miscalculated"

I read yesterday that, at best, it will take 8 months for the ice wall to freeze. It also said that due to gaps in the wall that 50 tons of radioactive water will leak daily even if the rest of the wall works. WHAT INSANITY!!! When will they learn that there is no such thing as safe nuclear energy????

Exactly, there is nothing safe about nuclear energy or the waste that it creates for thousands of years.

I recently heard information about the ice wall, as you previously asked. It was an interview done on Nuclear Hotseat episode 252. While the whole episode is great, the information your looking for about the ice wall starts at time stamp 11:16/59:27 of the link below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ooWP7vcYiic
