I just saw these on the map (north end of WI) and came to the forum to see if there is a reason. Anyone have any information? System error?

Ya, i saw them too and came here to see what was up, but wouldn't make sense anyways with data like that. But today there are a couple of stations (regulars) with higher readings, not just spikes, but over short amount of time, a raise then fall, a few times so something is out there area and maybe its that first posting about leaking drums. So "Hey" what is up with them APRS stations? I haven't been on here for a bit, but still sending up data to site, are those aprs stations a new project and needing to be set up still, hence the crazy readings? Frank

I saw after I posted when I unchecked the "include unreliable stations" that those readings weren't shown. I guess I don't understand what makes the reading from those unreliable, why they would be so high, but they were so out of wack that it didn't make sense that they were valid.

Agreed, was doing a quick search of the forum to see there were postings of experimenting with APRS apps going on. But did notice some higher readings from normal stations in the nearby areas, but related to these stations. Even here in Mass I was seeing some elevated readings from stations around me, higher than normal and no weather events happening here.

A couple of things I've noticed...

Pollen will increase readings this spring. Cars (and trucks) are insulated from ground and have their own magnetic power system. So these things attract metallic (and other) particles by way of magnetism. This is just one reason why a wet car swipe (after a rain) is a strong read in any environment.

Static Electric interference?

Personally I believe that a (so called) "strait wired" counter package is the best as all the components are wired directly to the car's (or truck's) battery... I think it may help to eliminate high (false or artificially elevated) readings for the overall environment...

Y'all know what your'e doing but don't forget to place a capacitor in-line to block engine starting surge and wire the unit(s) + and - direct to the power source...

It'll run for days (or weeks) without a drain sufficient to prevent you starting the vehicle...


Here's a example (and a true story) from my grandfather that lived to be over 100 years old...

Grandpa used to tell stories of shocking people with his Model T...

...When he went parking as a "youngun" he would touch bumpers with another car (all metal back then) when parked in the rain and drop a grounded rod to the pavement (or muddy ground) through the gear shift hole in the floor.
